The Story
In May of 2022, some locals went to a planning board meeting to learn the shocking details about the Industrial Warehouse Complex, Bridge Point 8, that borders Lawrence, West Windsor and Princeton. We learned that some greedy, unreasonable people plan to develop 5.5million square feet of warehouse space in an already overburdened location. The plan was simply untenable. The forecasted 200-800 tractor trailers per hour, added to this already traffic-heavy, flood prone region triggered us to say, simply, NO WAY. This cannot ever come to pass. Thousands of area residents and those who work in West Windsor, joined in this fight and as a result, the Mercer County Defense League and the Green Garden State Alliance were born. Together, we fight against greed to protect fragile lands and the health and safety of NJ residents.
Since then, many other communities have reached out for help with their own local battles against warehouse sprawl. It threatens our identity as the Garden State. It threatens our quality of life on every level. Join us in forcing our leaders to do the right thing and prioritize climate readiness, the safety of New Jerseyans, and our identity as the Garden State.
First Efforts
Friends and neighbors built a grass-roots movement, starting with blank yard signs, printed at home, sealed with packing tape and distributed to spread the word. We knocked on those neighbors' doors, most impacted by this ridiculous project, and they gladly joined the movement. Thousands of folks signed the petition, and hundreds donated to the cause.
Crossroads
Greed won the first round in court, HOWEVER, we are at a crossroads and engaging all options, including an appeal. We have said all along that this plan is so bad that it will likely kill itself. We believe we need to help it off the cliff before greed might have its way! Future generations are depending on us to leave them a habitable New Jersey! This battle has only just begun. We're not ever giving up.
